Addiction and the Rationale for Intervention

Addiction is the only chronic, progressive, terminal illness that tells us we don't have it.

Your addicted loved one is able to continue on the destructive  downward spiral he is caught in because he is out of touch with reality.  No matter how hard you and others try to show him the seriousness of his situation, your efforts fail.  Somewhere along the way he reached a point where he either had to give up drinking or give up reality.  He gave up reality because he needed to be able to drink.

The key to bringing an addict to the point of accepting help for his addiction is to cause him to see reality.  A professionally facilitated intervention is the most effective way to achieve this key breakthrough.  My definition of intervention is "presenting reality to a person who is out of touch with reality in a way that he can receive it."  All aspects of the intervention process are geared  to breaking down his denial system so that he can finally see that he desperately needs help to stop the destruction and turn his life around.

He will not realize the need for help on his own since he cannot see reality.  A caring group of people has to present reality to him in a way that gets through.  I can lead you every step of the way through an intervention process that has been successful over ninety percent of the time in having the addicted person go for help straight from the intervention session.

Without your help, he has no choice but to continue wreaking havoc in his life and yours.  When you access the help you need, you can provide the opportunity for him to get out of a terminal situation that he does not even know he is in.
